A FORUM FOR LIKE-MINDED PEOPLE

The project "Planet Earth - Directions for Use" (by founder Angie Rattay) attracted the attention of many people who wanted to make a difference. The next obvious step was to found an event that could be a meeting point for these interested people. The first EARTHtalks took place in 2008 and counted 130 guests.

CONTINUING THE EARTHTALKS

After the success of the first EARTHtalks, the event was continued in 2009 at the Viennese Museum of Natural History. This time, around 270 people took part. In 2010, the 3rd EARTHtalks took place in the City Hall with over 500 guests.

THE EARTHTALKS – NEW LOCATION

In 2011, the Hofburg became the home of the EARTHtalks. The event was also broadcasted via live stream for the first time. Every year, the royal halls filled up with interested people - and so the EARThtalks became the meeting point for people who want to create change.

RIGHTLIVELIHOOD AWARD AS PARTNER

In 2012, the Rightlivelihood Award (also called the "Alternative Nobel Prize") became an official partner of the EARTHtalks. Over the years, laureates such as Hermann Scheer, Vandana Shiva, Ledum Mitee and Bianca Jagger have spoken at the events.

EARTHTALKS x
FEDERAL PRESIDENT

Since 2016, the EARTHtalks have been held in the Hall E of the Museumsquartier, which formerly served as the monarchy's winter riding-hall. At the same time, Federal President Alexander Van der Bellen took over the patronage of the event, which is attended by around 900 people each year and followed by thousands via live stream.

THE FUTURE

On the 18th October 2023, the EARTHtalks will take place for the 14th time.
We are looking forward to many volunteers who will actively support the event – because if the climate crisis has proven one thing to us, it is that there is still a lot to do! We are many and we are loud!
